Vehicle Overview
With its various trim and body style combinations—not to mention its unparalleled ability to conquer anywhere in the outdoors—it can be argued that the Jeep Wrangler is the quintessential off-road vehicle. It has been around since 1987, with three production cycles so far. And with the 2018 model year, the SUV nameplate kicks off its fourth one. The 2018 Jeep Wrangler is split into nine trims: Sport, Sport S, Willys Wheeler, Freedom Edition, Willys Wheeler W, Sahara, Altitude, Rubicon, and Rubicon Recon.

Interior
Classified as a compact crossover SUV, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler is available as a two-door or four-door vehicle. Although the Wrangler offers 104 cubic feet of passenger space, it seats four with the 2-door and five with the 4-door. Also, while standard cargo space (behind the second-row seat) and maximum cargo space (with the second-row seat folded down) are measured at 12.8 cubic feet and 56.5 cubic feet on the 2-door, they are 31.5 cubic feet and 70.6 cubic feet on the 4-door. You can upgrade to the Freedom Edition for a cloth-and-leather seat trim. Only the Altitude and Rubicon Recon have full leather upholstery and front-seat heating capability. The Recon further stands apart with its black leather seats and red accent stitching. For comfort and convenience, the 2018 Wrangler has features such as eight-speaker audio, an AM/FM tuner, and an audio jack for connecting mobile devices. On the Willys Wheeler and higher, the Jeep's manufacturer—Chrysler—adds a one-year trial subscription to SiriusXM® satellite radio. Going up to the Freedom Edition adds auto-dimming ability on the rearview mirror, the Altitude and up have additions such as coat hooks, and the Rubicon Recon is the only one with automatic temperature control. A remote USB port, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, and an electronic vehicle information center are restricted to the Willys Wheeler level, Freedom Edition, and Rubicon Recon.

Exterior
All trims of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler have a sunroof officially known as the Sunrider® Soft Top, which can be folded back or removed to let the sun shine in. Also standard are halogen headlights and fog lights. On the Sahara, Altitude, and Rubicon trim level, the halogen headlights are upgraded to LED reflector lamps for more powerful lighting without taxing the vehicle's electrical system, and they can automatically turn on in low-visibility situations. Also, the halogen bulbs for the fog lights are replaced by LEDs. The Sport and the regular Willys Wheeler trim have manual fold-away side mirrors; the others have power heated ones. Sixteen-inch steel wheels go on the base-level Sport. The others ride on aluminum wheels: 18-inch ones on the Sahara and Altitude, and 17-inch ones on the others.

Mechanical
The standard suspension system on the 2018 Jeep Wrangler consists of a leading link front suspension and a trailing arm rear suspension. However, the suspensions on the Freedom Edition, Sahara, and Altitude are tuned and accompanied by gas shocks for a higher payload capacity. And the Willys Wheeler- and Rubicon-level trims go with a performance-oriented suspension. The vehicle's hydraulic power steering provides good vehicle response and increased ease of maneuverability in tight spaces.
Powertrain
Powering the 2018 Jeep Wrangler is a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission is glued to the engine, with the option of swapping it with a 5-speed automatic one. Four-wheel drive is standard on all trims. However, the Rubicon trim level gets the Rock-Trac® four-wheel drivetrain with front and rear electronic locking differentials and a 4:1 low range, while the others have the Command-Trac® system with a 2.72:1 low range.

Safety
For restraint and cushioning in the event of a collision, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler comes with advanced multistage front airbags, which sense impact severity and inflate with different levels of force for added security. All wheels have disc brakes for shortening stopping distances, and they are accompanied by an anti-lock braking system to prevent wheel lockup when the brake pedal is suddenly pressed and hydraulic assist brake booster for additional stopping power when needed. Also standard are electronic stability control for keeping you on the intended driving path, electronic roll mitigation to reduce the potential for wheel lift, hill start assist for safe driving up a steep slope, speed control for setting and maintaining a safe driving speed, traction control for preventing skidding, and an anti-theft system that combines remote keyless entry and engine immobilization (with a panic alarm added on all trims but the Sport and regular Willys Wheeler trim).
